About this course
This course provides a comprehensive foundation to the principles, regulations and processes underpinning JCQ access arrangements. It is particularly useful for professionals who are new to responsibility for access arrangements within their centre. It explains how access arrangements operate within schools and colleges and outlines the responsibilities of Access Arrangements Coordinators, SENCos and Assessors. It is designed as practical training for professionals responsible for identifying students who may require access arrangements and gathering the evidence required to support applications. The course focuses on helping professionals understand both the regulatory framework and the practical steps involved in implementing access arrangements within a centre. It has been developed by Lia Castiglione, author of Assessing the Need for Access Arrangements in Examinations, drawing on extensive experience supporting schools, colleges and qualification providers with the implementation of JCQ access arrangements.

These resources support professionals in: • Understanding the different categories of access arrangements • Explaining access arrangements to teachers and parents • Gathering evidence from teachers and students • Recording and organising evidence appropriately • Identifying appropriate tests and assessment areas • Understanding the use of JCQ forms and documentation • Preparing candidate files for inspection • Planning next steps when implementing the access arrangements process These materials can be downloaded and adapted for use in schools and colleges, helping to translate the regulations into clear and manageable processes.
Course structure
The course is organised into a series of sections which guide delegates step by step through the access arrangements process. The sections explore the purpose of access arrangements, how to identify students who may require access arrangements, the evidence required to support applications and the documentation used within the JCQ access arrangements process. Short quizzes throughout the course provide opportunities to check understanding and build confidence as you progress through the modules. Delegates can work through the course at their own pace and revisit sections as needed while implementing the access arrangements within their school or college.
